Sri Lankan Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardana said his country plans to sell the national airline SriLankan Airlines, adding that Russia could be a potential buyer.

“Yes, I can confirm that the Sri Lankan authorities are planning to sell SriLankan Airlines,” Gunawardana told Novosti news agency. “There are many business opportunities, and a Russian company could become a buyer in this deal.”

He stressed that his country wants to find a good buyer for Sri Lankan Airlines.

He stated that the airline currently does not fly to Russia due to insurance issues, explaining: “The airline has an insurance problem and will try to resume flights to Russia as soon as it is resolved. I think it will happen in the near future.”
